Pennines in Bloom Group have been instrumental in the development of a new floral display to be a focal point on the route to Hollingworth Lake from Littleborough. The Mallara previously provided pleasure boat rides on Hollingworth Lake and it now has a new life as an innovate planter sited near a beautiful stretch of the canal filled with blue lobelias, white petunias and red geraniums. The colours of the flowers edging the boat were selected to reflect the planter’s former life in the Hollingworth Lake surf. On Wednesday evening Milnrow and Oakenrod Beaver Scouts joined together to do an excellent job of clearing litter from Milnrow Village. Several bags of rubbish were filled during the litter pick that started from the car park opposite The Bobbin, continued along Edmund Street, Clifton Street, Whitworth Street, Equitable Street, Station Road, Dale Street, Leach Street, Stonefield Street and Stone Street before finishing outside Tesco Express in the precinct. Residents living within the Pennines Township are invited to take part in this year’s Pennines in Bloom gardening competition. If you live in Firgrove, Littleborough, Milnrow, Newhey, Smallbridge, Smithybridge or Wardle and have a garden to be proud of then this is the competition for you.
Each garden will be judged by members of Pennines in Bloom, a local group consisting of residents, Council officers and representatives from Friends of groups who are passionate about improving the environment of Pennines Township and in turn the quality of life of our communities. Three prizes of vouchers to be spent at Bowlee Garden Nursery will be awarded for the best residential gardens: 1st prize £75, 2nd prize £50 and 3rd prize £25. Entry details:
